Toward Synthesis of Web Services and Mobile Agents

Web Services technology provides the basis for interoperability, dynamic discovery and integration of distributed components. On the other hand, mobile agents have been utilized for achievement of local interactions with distributed components or selection of resources to use, with their ability to migrate from one host to another. This work presents a general framework for “Mobile Web Services”, which is Web Services with the migration ability, making Web Services and mobile agents complement each other. In our framework, a Mobile Web Service is composed of a combination of (1) descriptions of interaction process with partners, (2) service components to carry, and (3) migration policies. Our framework thus enables wide range of Mobile Web Services by combining these elements. It also makes migration behaviors exchangeable according to the environments.
